I’m helping a new client increase their conversion rates. They have a great product and they are getting steady sales but they want to do more. That’s the thing about successful (or soon-to-be successful) internet entrepreneurs, they never simply settle. If you get to 1% conversion, you need to up your game to get to 1.5. Once you hit that goal, you need to set a new one. If you become complacent, you’ll slide off the scale into internet nothingness. The top selling internet products didn’t get there without a plan and certainly didn’t get to the top of the heap without some fine tuning to sales copy.
Here are three ways to increase your conversion rates:
1. Improve your copy. What’s wrong with it? Maybe nothing but there might be some tweaks you can do to increase your traffic and convince your readers that your product is the answer to their problems! It’s amazing what a single well-placed sentence or tweaked call to action can do. If you don’t see any need for improvement, ask an expert copywriter to look it over for you. Fresh eyes can do wonders!
2. Offer a bonus. Put the price down (for a limited time), offer something extra, do something interesting. You want to create urgency so that people don’t say, “Eh…I’ll come back to this later after I’ve thought on it.”
3. Get the visitors on your mailing list! Make a squeeze page to get them to subscribe to a newsletter, to get a free report or another *freebie*. If you can’t convince them to buy now, maybe you can convince them to buy later. You work hard to get people to your website and / or landing page(s). It may take more than one interaction to convert them into customers.
Happy selling!
If your website is done and looking fabulous, you may get some great search engine hits. But your search engine optimization efforts are not done yet! They’ll never be done if you want to continue to experience growth.
SEO isn’t evergreen. In order to get traffic and keep it coming, you need to update your site often. If you don’t continue to update, the search engines will stop visiting and you’ll lose your page rankings. How do you keep your site fresh? A blog is a great way to do this.
Adding a blog to your website can help you optimise for SEO with all the big search engines. Your main site copy stays static but the blog is constantly updated with related words and phrases in your niche which is a key factor in keeping your traffic levels up.
Get Two Types of Traffic: The Two Legged and The Eight Legged Kinds
Eight legged traffic is great because that’s the search engines deciding you’re relevant. Two legged traffic is good too and will happen naturally because of those spider visitors. Not only can you get search engine spiders visiting you but you can also get people visiting you as well. Those people may just buy something from you.
Blogging Tips
Make your blog interesting and interactive and update it often. Write keyword rich content and make it interesting! Add RSS so people can subscribe and monetize it as well if you like but be careful about your advertisements as they could simply take people away from your site instead of convincing them that you have what they need on your main site.
LSI & The Long Tail
List your company home page in your blogroll and optimize your content for search engines by using LSI writing, Long Tail keywords and linking in the blog to other areas of your site as well.
Each time you update your blog, the search engines will be prompted to visit you and index you for more of your keywords and targeted phrases. Don’t forget to do some social bookmarking and social networking as well in order to get more traffic to the blog which will make it go viral.
Make Your Blog Count!
Write good content. I know I’ve said that twice already but it bears repeating! If you don’t know what to write about or don’t have time to do the writing, hire an SEO writer (like me!) who specialises in LSI, SEO writing and blogging.
Are there SEO rules to keep in mind when you write articles or web copy? Good question and one without a straight answer. You’ll find many who suggest specific keyword density, LSI silo writing, keyword proximity rules and the like. The best approach is to do your best to write good copy first. After the copy is written, tweak it for SEO.
If the copy isn’t compelling, no one will buy what you’re selling. Regardless of how many people the search engines drive to your website, your conversion rates will not get past single digits unless the copy helps the visitor see the big picture and the benefits to buying what you’re selling. SEO is secondary.
A good rule of thumb is to aim for relevancy when you tweak your copy for search engines. If you look at your page like a search engine, look for words that really stand out. Look at the beginning of your copy and again at the end. Look at the title, the meta tag and the subheadings. And then, look for related words as well. You want it to be glaringly obvious to the search engines that your site is relevant to a particular topic.
If you’re getting a high number of visitors and not a high number of customers, it’s time to change your copy. Likewise, if you’re getting decent sales but low visitors, it’s time to tweak your SEO. Try these ideas to help you with your problem:
Low Visitors with High Sales
Add a new meta description and keyword rich title. Integrate some more relevant keywords into your content. Use a keyword research tool to help you. A great one that’s free is: SEO keyword tools.
High Search Engine Traffic and Low Conversion Rates
If this is your problem, you need to tweak your copy. Your SEO is great but your copy ain’t so hot. If you don’t want to hire a writer, read some article writing tips and write for your target audience.
