What is SEO Writing?
If you want to get found online on Google, Yahoo!, and Bing, you need to be indexed by search engines. SEO writing can help with that. There are a number of ways that the content for your site can be written to enhance your rankings and your sales. Hiring an SEO writer can help.
Search engines index individual pages and if the right words are on your pages, people looking for those words will find you. For that reason, website owners should choose a handful of words that they want to rank for. A qualified SEO writer can help you rank for those words in several ways, including:
- Optimizing your existing web page content (on each page) for those words
- Writing new content for your site based on particular keyword phrases
- Doing off page optimization activities that can increase your website’s popularity, begin the selling process, and drive search engines AND people to visit your website.
A writer specialised in SEO writing should do more than stuff content with keywords. Keyword article writing needs to accomplish two things:
- Get the page recognised by Google as relevant to that topic
- Pique the interest of the reader and / or compel the reader to buy
SEO copywriting requires a delicate balance of keywords and sales writing that not everyone can achieve. Having one (either one) without the other won’t work. Great optimization in search engines can bring you traffic but if the words on the page don’t compel the reader to take action, it doesn’t matter how much traffic you get. Great sales copy without keyword optimization will mean that most people won’t be able to find you. If you’re looking at your website analytics and scratching your head either about high traffic with low conversions or high conversions but low traffic, an SEO article writing action plan can help.
Here’s what I’d do if you contacted me about my writing and SEO services:
- Look at your website to look for any obvious issues of why you’re not getting traffic or why you’re not getting conversions
- Look at your website analytics reports to see what keywords might be good targets
- Talk to you about your goals for your site and your prospective target audience
- Make a plan to help you improve your search engine rankings and increase your sales numbers

I learned a lot doing this kind of work for clients – now that I’m doing this stuff for my own blogs and websites, I need a gentle reminder on the basics.

I would agree, the reasons for ranking are more important to me as well. They sound nice but don’t necessarily convert traffic. This is a solid post for beginners to SEO like myself. Thanks!

You almost have to wonder if journalism should offer SEO writing as part of their formal course for qualifications.
I think it’s almost a must now.
